Sheep Shearing Open House - Mass Audubon’s Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, 113 Goodnow Rd.
Sat, Apr 14, 2012 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Visitors can meet the sanctuary sheep, learn how sheep are sheared and how those fleeces eventually become hats and mittens. One fun addition this year is a Sheep Identification Sheet containing photos of four favorite Wachusett Meadow sheep, their names, identifying marks, and fun facts. Folks can download this sheet from our website, or pick up a copy when they arrive at the Open House, and then set about trying to locate those four sheep in the flock. It’s a great way to become more familiar with four personalities within the flock. The link to that identification sheet is:
Sheep grazing led to the development of many meadows on the sanctuary, and our current team of munchers help us maintain open habitat for wildlife. Come and meet Aurora, Monarch, Taggley and the rest of the flock. Learn how sheep are sheared and how those fleeces eventually become warm hats and mittens.
