Papua New Guinea Art and National Identity: Exhibit, Lecture, and Film
Explore the sculptures, paintings, weavings, and music of the Oceanic culture of Papua New Guinea in a three-day exhibit and event series, April 29-May 1, 2011, at The Princeton Center, 18 Boylston Ave., Princeton. This exhibit celebrates Papua New Guinea’s rich and diverse cultural history by offering the following events: Exhibit: Friday April 29, 3 pm-7:30 pm, Saturday, April 30, 10 am to 7:30 pm and Sunday May 1, 10 am to 3 pm. Lecture: Saturday April 30, at 4 pm, Pamela Rosi, Ph.D., a prominent Papua New Guinea anthropologist, will speak on “Magic, Myth and Realism: Images of Contemporary Papua New Guinea Art”. Film: “Killer Whale and Crocodile” is a 50-minute documentary chronicling the artistic collaboration of two master carvers from Papua New Guinea and the West Coast of Canada.
