Saturday, September 18th Earthday Collection includes Paints and Chemicals & change for weekday collection schedule
Wachusett Earthday collections will be held each Wednesday during September from 3 to 5 p.m.  In addition a full collection of paints and chemicals and bulk items will be held on Saturday, September 18, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The location is the Wachusett Watershed Region Recycling Center, 131 Raymond Huntington Highway, West Boylston. Residents of the seven Wachusett towns of Boylston, Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling and West Boylston may bring recycling and bulk items to the collection. Wachusett Earthday, the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the seven Towns are partners in the regional collection center.

Items collected with no fee are paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, separated #6 styrofoam, metal cans, returnable bottles and cans, all batteries, mercury thermostats, thermometers, fluourescent tubes, bicycles, clothing, books, good condition linens and small household goods, electronics and computer parts (except monitors which have a fee),

The Center also accepts reusable furniture and appliances. Each large appliance or large furniture item costs $5 for disposal. If you believe the furniture or appliance is still in usable condition please tell the volunteer when you drop it off, and Earthday will attempt to place it with someone who can reuse it. The fee will still apply in case we need to dispose of the item

Items accepted for a fee are: computer monitors ($3 per monitor), TVs ($10 regular, $15 extra large or wood console), large appliances and metal machines including washers, dryers, stoves, hot water heaters and snow blowers, riding mowers, swing sets or other large scrap metal ($5 each), small appliances, lawn mowers, microwaves, small chairs ($2/each), items with refrigerants such as refrigerators, dehumidifiers, freezers or air conditioners ($10 each), furniture, rugs, toilets, sinks, mattress, box springs, large children’s toys, outdoor furniture ($5 each), sleeper couches ($10 each), household project debris such as wood, bricks, concrete, wallboard is ($30/cubic yard), car tires ($2 per tire with or without rims), truck tires (larger 19-22" $20 with or without rims), extra large equipment tires ($20+), propane tanks ($5 per 20 pound regular tank, $2 small stove tank, $30 per 100 pound tank).

During September, the Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center will be open every Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m..  This is a shift from previously published schedules. The Center will also be open the third Saturday of each month from 8 to 11 a.m. for the full general collection.

Fall Household Hazardous Products collections of paints and chemicals will be held Saturday, September 18 and November 20 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Paints and chemicals fee is $4/gallon or pound. Pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, paints and thinners, automotive products, cleaners and other chemicals will be collected. There is no charge for motor oil.  Used motor oil must not be mixed with any other substance. 

Check Town web sites for updates. Directions to the collection center: I-190, Exit 5, north one block on Route 140 to light, left on Legg Road and travel 0.8 mile to the entrance on the right. Or Laurel Street, West Boylston or Manning Street, Holden to Raymond Huntington Highway (parallel with I-190 at Holden/West Boylston town line), and travel 0.9 mile to the entrance on the left.
