What type of work requires a permit?
Massachusetts Building Code requires that a permit is needed for new structures, additions, dormers, chimneys, woodstoves, decks, roofing,
siding, windows, swimming pools, antennae and sheds.

What information is needed with building permit?
Plans/drawings of work to be performed. Copies of Builders insurance coverage and licenses HIC/and or HI.

How long does it take to obtain a permit?
The building department has up to 30 day in which to issue or deny a building permit. Most applications are approved within a week.

Do I need a permit to put up a shed?
A permit is not needed if you plan to build your shed (10 x 10) or less.
Your shed must be 30ft from property line and 50ft. from street.

Electrical/Plumbing/Gas
Electrial permits are available at the building dept. You must be a licensed electrician to upgrade your service.
Plumbing and Gas permits require a licensed professional according to Massachusets State Law.
